Pregnancy massage is an extremely specialised treatment and should not be carried out by anyone not qualified and insured to do so. I have a Practitioners Diploma in Pregnancy Massage, Full Body and Abdomen and am fully insured to carry out the treatment.

If you are interested in having a massage or regular massage treatments during your pregnancy you will need to obtain signed consent from your doctor or midwife. Although for most women massage during pregnancy is safe, it is important that you have medical approval so that no medical reason as to why it would not be appropriate has been identified.

Important information regarding Pregnancy Massage

Here is a form that you will need to download and print off to take to your doctor/midwife for completing and signing prior to making an appointment. Please confirm that medical consent has been given when you get in touch to make your appointment and have the completed form ready to give me when we meet for your first appointment.  If you have any problems with this please do let me know via the contact form on this site or by phoning/texting me on 07544 269456.

It is important to note that a massage cannot be given during the first trimester of pregnancy so please ensure that you are past this point when considering booking an appointment.

Massage treatment

The pregnancy massage treatment is extremely gently and is performed with a very light touch. It is very relaxing and calming and can provide some relief from aches and pains associated with pregnancy. It is a beautiful treatment.

The treatment takes place on the couch with the client laying predominately on their sides. At all times the mum to be will be supported with the comfy client cushion system to ensure that they feel both safe and comfortable.

For the pregnancy massage treatments, I use a high quality 100% natural blended massage oil which is totally safe for both mum to be and baby. The oil is a 100% blend of Rich cold pressed oils including rosehip, sea buckthorn and argan. This blend will help to improve both the feel and appearance of the skin as the pregnancy develops and is extremely nourishing and enriching. This blend does contain sweet almond oil and so will not be suitable for anyone with a nut allergy. If a client does have nut allergy I have 100% pure cold pressed organic rosehip oil which I will blend with a suitable carrier oil to ensure that it is safe and still has the same nourishing benefits, helping to look after the condition of the skin and help reduce some stretchmarks.

Whole body massage treatment

The full body treatment involves a number of stretches followed by a gentle massage on the back, arms, legs, feet and will conclude with the face. The abdomen will not be massaged during the treatment although there will be some gentle strokes to the side of the waist/abdomen area.

Back, neck & shoulders massage

If you don’t have time for a full body massage treatment or are just looking for some relaxation and specific relief from backache, then this treatment will be perfect for you.

Benefits of prenatal massage

Studies suggest that having massage treatments during pregnancy can help to reduce levels of anxiety, lower symptoms of depression, relieve aches and pains in joints and muscles and can potentially help with labour. Additionally, breastfeeding can be more successful as massage can help increase prolactin and mammary development.

Benefits of massage during pregnancy

Here are just some reasons why having a massage during pregnancy is beneficial:

  • Aches and pains can feel soothed and relieved
  • Skin gets nourished through the use of oils
  • It can help improve circulation
  • Can provide relief from heartburn
  • Encourages relaxation
  • It can help improve sleep

Aches and Pains

The body goes through significant changes during pregnancy which can bring about many aches and pains, especially in the latter stages. Massage can be a wonderful and natural way of helping to provide some relief.

Backache can be extremely common during pregnancy as posture changes to accommodate the additional weight of the baby as it grows. Massage treatments can help to alleviate some of the discomfort and relieve tension.

As the baby grows so the skin will continue to stretch to accommodate the developing bump. We work with a nourishing massage oil specifically designed to help with stretchmarks which is safe for use during and after pregnancy.

Sciatic pain can be experienced during pregnancy. Having a gentle massage can help provide some relief.

Pregnancy can put greater demands on the body and iron deficiency is a common side effect, where there is not enough haemoglobin in the blood. In addition to taking iron supplements, a full body massage can help to boost blood and lymph circulation and will help to relieve tiredness. Stimulating circulation will help to raise the red blood count and so more haemoglobin will be produced.

Leg cramps, swelling ankles and hands can be common symptoms of pregnancy due to the fact that the body’s circulation is having to work twice as hard. Massage is wonderful for boosting circulation and eliminating toxins through the lymph nodes, hence reducing swelling.
